In Defense of Beauty

Titian, Bacchus and Ariadne, 1520-23

Tonight I will be participating in the discussion around Jason Brown's paper "In Defense of Beauty: the Guise and the Intangible".  I'll be presenting slides of my work couched within art historical references.  Among the images I'll be looking at is one of my favorites from Titian.  The talk is at Place Gallery in Pioneer Mall, August 24th from 5:30 to 8:30 pm.

Francis Picabia

Francis Picabia, I See in Memory My Dear Udnie, Oil on canvas, 8' 2 x 6' 6 feet, 1914.

On my trip to New York, I came across this huge Francis Picabia at Moma for the first time. If not the best thing I saw on my trip, it was certainly the most unexpected.  Lovely.

Searchers (Studio)

A studio shot of the final state for Searchers, 2011.
This piece, along with Big Windy and Offering, will be in the upcoming Inventing an Illusive Space at the Kirkland Arts Center from July 9 - August 15th. Opening is Friday, July 15th from 6-8.30pm.

I am so excited to be showing beside Eric Elliott, Preston Graves, Michael Lorefice, and Kimberly Trowbridge, four of my favorite artists working today. Love these guys.
